Paintball & Recruiting

So it was my son's birthday and we decided to invite a few of his friends and take them along to a fun game of paintball. When we got there, the paintball park was amazing as there were numerous people of all ages in the park paintballing. It looked like an urban battle zone with guns going off and paintball soldiers running all over the field ducking and hiding behind barrels, trees and what ever cover existed on the field.

We grabbed our gear and headed to the first course where we were separated into teams and then systematically destroyed by the opposing team.

My competitive streak doesn't allow for me not to win at what ever I do - so I devised a plan to recruit the best players, kids, and who ever else was out there that day to be on our team. We promised our new recruits energy, tactics, skill, more fun, and the chance to win in every mission we played. By days end, our team racked up multiple victories and most importantly we all had a blast together as a dynamic team.

So where does the recruiting come in to play in all of this? Simple, I gave something and got what I wanted in return - I sold the idea that our team would have the most fun in the park, that our team would use tactics, that our team would have the most energy, that we would work as a cohesive team. The other players bought in and joined us. These ideals that I sold ultimately put us in a place to have a great amount of fun, work as a team, and have a memorable birthday party.

The same principals can be utilized in the workplace by finding out what people want; what motivates them in order for them to give their very best day in and day out and to create a winning and dynamic workplace and organization.
